The day has come. After three-plus years of struggling in pinstripes, the Yankees have designated outfielder Aaron Hicks for assignment. The 33-year-old had over two years remaining on his seven-year, $70 million contract he signed with the club after the 2019 season. However, the club has seen enough and has parted ways with the struggling outfielder.Hicks is slashing .188/.263/.261 with one homer in 28 games played this season. The switch-hitter was the corresponding move to outfielder Greg Allen being added to the roster after they acquired him from the Boston Red Sox.Now, Hicks will try to follow in the footsteps of Joey Gallo (.892 OPS with the Twins this season) — another outfielder who was showered with boos during his time in the Bronx — in trying to resurrect his career away from the bright lights of Yankee StadiumThis is a developing story. Mike Lupica: Aaron Judge vs. Pete Alonso home run competition shaping up for wild summer

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:32:14 GMT

We have had a lot of home run summers in New York City, all the way back to when Babe Ruth invented the home run. The city had them for sure in the 50s, when it was Willie, Mickey and The Duke hitting home runs at the Polo Grounds and the old Stadium and Ebbets Field. Everybody knows we had the Summer of ‘61, when Roger Maris hit 61 for the Yankees and beat The Babe, and Mickey Mantle ended up with 54.But what we have never had, not really, is a Yankee and a Met fighting for the title of home run king of baseball. But we’ve got a fight like that shaping up now between Aaron Judge and Pete Alonso, who are carrying their teams right now as much as they ever have, and who just had some week hitting balls over the fence, nine between them starting on Monday and ending on Friday night. Is all.Once again, the Yankees look like a baseball team named Judge with him back off the Injured List. You saw what he did to the Blue Jays in Toronto, before and after he got accused by the ...

Ned Lamont (D) will meet with National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman to discuss relocating the Arizona Coyotes to Hartford, Nexstar's WTNH has learned.News of the governor's plan comes after voters in Tempe, Arizona, rejected a referendum to build a new arena for the Coyotes in their home city.Moving the Coyotes to Connecticut might still be a long shot, as the team wouldn't have a new, state-of-the-art arena in Hartford, either.
